INVERNESS, Fla. – Aug. 3, 2022 – PRLog — The Pet Professional Guild (PPG) has appointed New York-based cat behavior consultant Paula Garber as editor of its trade publication BARKS from the Guild effective August 5, 2022. She replaces Susan Nilson, who served as editor and was a member of the PPG Steering Committee from March 2014 to July 2022.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Pet Professional Guild, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Susan for her many years of contribution. We greatly appreciate her services during the ‘growing’ years of PPG,” said PPG president, Niki Tudge. “It has been our genuine pleasure working with her and we wish her the very best with her future endeavors.”

Paula Garber, who chaired PPG’s Feline Committee and was a member of the PPG Steering Committee from 2016 to 2022, now expands her role in the organization to help share the latest force-free training and pet care news, scientific research, and success stories with its membership, as well as promoting PPG’s guiding principles to the industry at large.

For more than two decades before starting her cat behavior consulting business, LIFELINE Cat Behavior Solutions, in 2014, Paula was an editorial professional working for both small and large education and publishing companies. She specialized in developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, and project management of textbooks, digital learning products, and professional and academic books and articles. Her subject matter focus was in the social and natural sciences, humanities, medicine, and psychology. She holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a diploma in feline behavior science and technology from the Companion Animal Sciences Institute. She is a Certified Feline Training and Behavior Professional and Certified Animal Training and Enrichment Professional through the Animal Behavior Institute, and is also a Fear Free Certified Animal Trainer and is certified in Low Stress Handling.

“The appointment of Paula Garber into this new role at PPG makes so much sense and it’s a perfect match of skills and organizational need.  Paula is a consummate professional, has a great working relationship with the key stakeholders at PPG and will ensure we meet the challenges of a constantly evolving industry. We are excited to see how Paula will evolve into this role and the positive impact she will have on BARKS as we move forward,” said Niki Tudge.

Added Paula, “Words can’t express how thrilled I am about this opportunity to serve as editor of BARKS from the Guild. This role represents a perfect marriage of my editorial skills with my passion about force-free animal care and training. I’m looking forward to working with BARKS contributors to generate educational and inspirational content of the highest quality that readers will enjoy and find useful in their work with pets and their owners.”
